Own a narrowboat

I have always fancied cruising or meandering through the English countryside on a barge… well, for the more concerning of us, a  Narrow Boat. Whiling away the hours on a peaceful boat in the summer sunshine, with the kids abandoning ship to run and play on the tow path with Bunsen (My fictitious Choc Lab – I have always been a closet pyromaniac – hence ‘Bunsen’ named after Robert Bunsen… as in ‘burner’ – Well, Mrs K at Secondary School caught me out trying to set fire to the tipex… I digress)

And now my dreams could be realised as in nearby Worcestershire Hamlet of Withybed Green, a brand new moorings is being developed. This seems an ideal marina as it is on the off side to the tow path, secured by a gated entrance to the road.

The moorings only has 74 births so wont be too crowded and is hop, skip and a jump to the local pubs. Only a short walk away is Alvechurch with shops, a chemist, chip shop, grocers, butchers, Chinese and Indian take aways.

Imagine the early morning breakfasts over looking fields with the sounds of the ripples and the gentle lashing of the canal and then the team work needed to get us through Tardebigge Locks, shifting one lock of water to another to proceed on with our journey. At the end of each day we can cook the dinner on a 2 burner stove and tiny grill and  still sit down and watch Star Trek on Virgin 1 via the sat dish! – a perfect day!

All I need now is a Narrow Boat, painted pink with flourescent polka dots, probably to upset the more traditional Narrow Boat CircumNavigators… or would i go for the traditional Rosie and Jim design… well if one day I…. I’ll post the photos!
